Etter Kirsch Zuger Eau de Vie 3 Year Brandy
This eau de vie is crafted using Swiss cherries in small copper pot stills. It is aged for 3 years, with Etter selecting only the finest aromatic black mountain cherries. These cherries, which are becoming increasingly rare, are smaller and sweeter than most varieties and grow on tall cherry trees. After distillation, only the very center cut of the liquid is aged in small glass demijohns for 3 years to develop a smooth flavor. Each bottle contains over 16 pounds of fruit. The appearance is clear and bright, and the initial impression is a scent reminiscent of fresh cherry skin and pulp, albeit with a unique twist. The alcohol is seamlessly integrated, only becoming noticeable after warming. The taste is dominated by cherry oils and essence, accompanied by a rush of finely distilled alcohol that warms the throat and settles in the stomach. This type of cherry differs from its Black Forest counterparts, resembling a Maraschino or Dalmatian variety. Unlike other wood-aged Kirsch options, this eau de vie boasts a clean, fruit-forward flavor. It slightly tingles the edge of the tongue before providing a lovely and persistent warming finish.
