Kastelburg Williams-Birnen-Brand
This brandy is crafted from ripe and carefully selected South Tyrolean Williams pears. The pears are processed into a puree on-site and then distilled in the Black Forest. This unique variety of pear was originally discovered in England in the 18th century and has since become renowned worldwide. It is grown and cherished in various countries, including America, France, Switzerland, and South Tyrol. The pears thrive in protected areas with fertile soil and are ripe for harvest in September when their skin is still yellow-green. The flesh of the fruit is juicy and has a tangy-sweet taste reminiscent of muscat grapes. Williams brandy is becoming increasingly popular and is particularly well-known within the fruit spirit category. The Franz Fies Edelobstbrennerei, located in Ringelbach near Oberkirch in the Black Forest, was established in 1948. Today, it is one of the largest distilleries in the Black Forest and has the capacity to produce over a million bottles annually. The distillery specializes in creating high-quality spirits from not only pears but also cherries, raspberries, plums, mirabelles, and grapes. The term "Echte Schwarzwlder" is a protected designation of origin, ensuring that only selected fruits ripened in the Black Forest can be rightfully referred to as such.
