Pre Magloire VSOP Calvados
VSOP is unique because it is exclusively made from cider derived from apples grown in the Pays d'Auge region of Normandy, which only covers a small portion of the area. This particular VSOP, produced by Pere Magloire, is aged for four years and is made entirely from fruit from the prestigious grand cru Pays d'Auge, which is double distilled and then aged in oak barrels. The Magloire name has a long history in the region and was the most successful brand in 1900. It has a beautiful dark golden color and serves as a great introduction to calvados. The aroma showcases ripe, slightly damaged red apple fruit with hints of vanilla. While it may not be the most complex, it is very enjoyable. The taste follows the same profile but is slightly let down by its sweetness and oakiness, which somewhat overpowers the fruit flavors. Overall, it is a good starting point for those new to calvados, and particularly appealing for whiskey drinkers looking to venture into something new.
