Château De Laubade 1984 Armagnac
Description
Bas Armagnac, Gascony in France is home to one of the finest estates in the region. The vintage Armagnac produced here is made from 100% grapes harvested in the same year, resulting in a very complex and rich spirit. Château de Laubade, where this Armagnac is made, has over 80 different vintages that have been matured in their cellars. Each vintage is entirely made from grapes harvested and distilled in a single year, and tells a unique story. These stories reflect the changing climate, the expertise of the Cellar Masters through generations, the quality of the casks, and the temperature of the cellars. Each vintage represents a chapter in the estate's long history, showcasing the expertise and dedication of many generations of individuals. Château de Laubade only releases their vintages after a minimum of 15 years of aging in oak casks from Gascony. The initial aromas of the Armagnac are bittersweet, intense, assertive, and nutty. With further aeration, the oaky resin becomes more concentrated, intensifying the bittersweet notes. On the palate, the Armagnac has a rich and maple-like entry, which then transitions to the resinous, seed-like, and bitter flavors of unseasoned oak, road tar, and black tea leaves. The finish is firm, but the resiny and tea-like qualities make it quite bitter. While the Armagnac shows potential, it currently has an angular character.
