Courvoisier C Cognac
Description
C by Courvoisier, a revolutionary cognac, aims to bring a fresh approach to the category. It is a full-bodied blend of spirits sourced from 50 winegrowers in the Fin Bois Cru region, surrounding Grand Champagne and Petite Champagne. Due to the limited availability and high cost of grapes in Grande Champagne, Courvoisier opts for neighboring areas to create a more affordable cognac. The resulting spirit undergoes double aging in both young and mature barrels. However, the outcome is somewhat mediocre. The enticing deep amber color and citrusy, fruity aroma with a hint of floral notes give a promising start. But on the palate, it feels incredibly hot, due to the shape of the glass trapping a substantial amount of alcohol. Given time to dissipate or using a different vessel, one can enjoy the flavors of apple, orange, and wood. Unfortunately, the fruit and wood elements fail to harmonize, resulting in a lack of balance. It seems that Courvoisier intentionally used new wood barrels to create a bold and flavorful spirit, sacrificing smoothness and complexity.
