Darroze les Grands Assemblages 8 Years Armagnac
Description
Marc has partnered with a mobile distiller who travels in a truck after harvest, similar to how distillers used to do in the past. Marc buys aged Armagnac barrels from farmers, just like his father did, and he also purchases freshly distilled white spirits from specific farms and ages them himself. The new spirits are usually stored in new barrels in a dry cellar, which speeds up evaporation and oxidation. After a few years, the spirits are transferred to older barrels and moved to a more humid cellar, where the maturation process slows down naturally. Darroze creates two types of Armagnacs: blends called Les Grands Assemblages, and single estate, vintage dated spirits known as the Unique Collection. All the Armagnacs come from farms in the Bas Armagnac, the western district of Armagnac located near the Landes forest. This area has sandy soil, low yields, and high acid grapes, which are perfect for distillation and contribute to the region's excellent reputation. The Tenarèze district to the east has more clay and limestone, while the Haut Armagnac zone, where Côtes de Gascogne is produced, is further east. This Armagnac has a golden color and a light, delicate flavor profile, with hints of honey, fresh pears, peaches, and subtle floral and pear notes. It would be delightful mixed in a sparkling drink with ginger ale or sparkling wine.
