Boulard XO Calvados
Boulard, a family owned distillery, produces a delightful Calvados. Established in Normandy, Northern France in 1825 by Pierre-August Boulard, the distillery is located close to the Coquainvilliers commune of Calvados. This particular Calvados is not only classified as XO, but it also bears the prestigious "Pays d'Auge" label, indicating that it has been aged for a period ranging from 6 to 15 years in French oak barrels. Boulard employs 120 different varieties of apples, sourced from 500 different orchards, for their Calvados production. Additionally, one fifth of these apples are grown directly on the premises of Boulard. The end result is a rich and oaky Calvados, with distinctive notes of pot-pourri, spiced apple pie, crisp green apple skin, grape sweetness, a hint of apple-like acidity, vanilla, toasted nuts, black tea, buttery oak, and woodspice. This Calvados is truly exceptional, displaying a significant aging process and a perfect balance between the flavors of oak and fruit. It is remarkably smooth in taste.
