Laird's Jersey Lightning Apple Brandy

If you research Jersey Lightning in history books, you will discover that it was the first commercially produced cider in America by a Scottish man named William Laird. Laird began producing cyder in 1698, which was also referred to as Jersey Lightning because it was made in New Jersey. Remarkably, Laird's company still exists today and is once again bottling a clear apple brandy, allowing us to experience why Laird's Jersey Lightning Apple Brandy was highly regarded by our founding fathers. This bottling will be produced in limited quantities, and those fortunate enough to enjoy it will be tasting a piece of history. Each bottle is made from approximately 20 pounds of apples. The aroma features overripe apples, fresh nonalcoholic apple cider, and orange-champagne marmalade. The initial taste is somewhat strong, offering the flavors of cinnamon-coated baked apples and ambrosia fruit salad. The finish is spicy, with hints of honeydew melon, peaches, and pears.
