Scheibel Alte Zeit Gelbe Bergpflaume
Do you know about the Scheibel Alte Zeit Yellow Mountain Plum fruit brandy? It's unlikely, as the yellow mountain plum is a rare fruit and not commonly used for brandy production. Surprisingly, the yellow mountain plum used in this Scheibel fruit brandy is very fragrant. The fruits are harvested when fully ripe, which is quite late, and come from the Ortenau region's high altitudes where perfect climate conditions allow the yellow mountain plum to thrive and develop its intense flavor. After distillation, the brandy is aged in small oak barrels, resulting in a softer aroma and smoother taste. The addition of vanilla, mocha, and caramel enhances the magnificent aroma, and the barrel aging gives the brandy its golden color. This yellow mountain plum fruit brandy has a delicate taste with mature aromas and interesting extracts. Unlike other bottlings in the Alte Zeit edition, this aged brandy has a robust 44% alcohol content, which enhances the flavors. The beautiful bottle has a capacity of 700 ml. The aroma on the nose is dense, with ripe plums, vanilla, and mocha notes. The first impression is a subtle sweetness from the ripe fruits. When tasting, the brandy reveals a finely developed character with flavors of fully ripened mountain plums, caramel, vanilla, and marzipan. Overall, this bottling offers a smooth profile achieved through meticulous distillation and sufficient maturation time. In its long, warm finish, the brandy offers a pleasing aroma. The Yellow Mountain Plum is a yellow-fleshed plum that requires a long time to ripen, so the fruits used for this brandy are also harvested late. The master distiller has determined that bottling the Scheibel Yellow Mountain Plum at precisely 44% vol allows it to be enjoyed best. The team led by owner Michael Scheibel fills the brandy into small oak barrels, which contribute to its strong, beautiful color.
