Bistra Slivovitz Plum Brandy
Description
Slivovitz, a popular alcoholic beverage in Serbia, holds the distinction of being the national drink, while the plum holds the title of national fruit. The name "Slivovitz" is derived from Slavic words that refer to plum, which is the main ingredient used in the production of this drink. In Serbian cuisine, plum products are often a staple at the beginning or end of a meal. The distinct flavor of Slivovitz is attributed to the inclusion of plum seeds in the beverage. Bistra Slivovitz Plum Brandy, a high-quality brandy made from Serbian plums, is manufactured by following a specific production process. This involves crushing selected ripe plums and separating the pits. The resulting fermented mash is then subjected to a temperature-controlled fermentation process using regional yeasts. Afterward, the mash is double distilled and blended until it reaches the desired flavor profile of fresh Slivovitz. The final product is aged in oak barrels, which can hold up to 5000 liters, to enhance its aroma. Subsequently, it is stored in stainless steel tanks until it is ready for bottling. The brandy undergoes three years of oak aging, resulting in a golden color and a smoother taste that can be described as fresh, lively, and vibrant. The unique taste of Slivovitz can be attributed to the amygdalin released by the plum seeds during the pressing process, which provides an almond flavor. When consuming Bistra Slivovitz Plum Brandy, the palate can detect hints of vanilla and almond. The initial fiery sensation upon sipping the brandy gradually fades, leading to a smooth and clean finish. In line with tradition, Bistra Slivovitz Serbian Plum Brandy is usually enjoyed neat, similar to how one would consume cognac or other high-quality brandies.
