Delord Vintage 1985 Bas Armagnac
Description
In 1893, Prosper Delord was enamored with Armagnac and decided to establish the Delord house. The business was passed down to his two sons, Jacques and Pierre, and is now run by Jerome and Sylvain, the fourth generation, who share the same passion for Armagnac. The vineyard, situated in Lannepax, spans 42 hectares and consists of the traditional Armagnac grape varieties: Ugni Blanc (56%), Colombard (24%), Baco (14%), and Folle-Blanche (6%). Rinaldo, the vineyard manager, diligently cares for the vines throughout the year. Maison Delord offers blends aged from three to over 30 years, as well as vintages from 1900 to the present. Delord Bas Armagnac Recolte 1985, made from Colombard, Ugni Blanc, and Baco grapes, displays a copper color with a golden hue. The initial aromas include sweet leather, roasted almonds, hazelnut, toffee apple, cinnamon, clove, and vanilla. The robust and spicy palate presents baked apple and raisin flavors, followed by waves of cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. The warming sensation leaves a prickly feeling. The dry aftertaste features notes of orange zest, vanilla, nutmeg, and old leather. While this Armagnac demonstrates impressive length, it falls short of being considered one of the best.
