Duc De Loussac XO Armagnac
Description
Armagnac, a type of brandy, is produced in the Gascony region of South West France. Jean Lesgourgues created his own brand called "Duc de Loussac" at the end of the 19th Century, which was later passed down to his grandson Maurice Lesgourgues in 1974. The brandy is produced in Château de Laubade, located in Peyrehorade in Gascony, which owns a 260-acre single estate vineyard. The fruit used in the production of Armagnac is carefully selected from exclusive estate vineyards in Bas Armagnac and consists of four traditional grape varieties: Ugni-Blanc, Folle Blanche, Colombard, and Baco. The fruit is grown using sustainable agriculture methods and organic manure produced by 600 ewes. The Armagnac is distilled separately for each grape variety and is made in-house. Château de Laubade is the only producer that crafts its own casks from Gascony oak, which are then blended with the traditionally vinified grapes and aged for 15 to 25 years. The blend consists of over 40 eaux-de-vie. The bouquet of the Armagnac offers fragrances of tightly packed, semi-sweet, toffee-coated apple and wood resin. The flavor is firm, sweet, and moderately oily, while the finish is long, pleasantly tart, oily, and reminiscent of nuts. Overall, it is a beautiful Armagnac.
