Fernando de Castilla Unico
Description
The cellars of Bodegas Rey Fernando de Castilla are located in the historic center of Jerez, where one can find the true treasures of this winemaking region. The famous brandies of Fernando de Castilla are made using selected white wines and aged in new French and American oak barrels, as well as barrels previously used for the finest sherries. Only the highest categories of brandies, Solera Reserva and Solera Gran Reserva, are produced. Bodegas Rey Fernando de Castilla is a founding member of the D.O. Brandy de Jerez.
The brandies of Fernando de Castilla's Gran Reserva are made using alambic distillates and aged in barriques for 3 to 6 years before entering the solera system for an additional decade. The exceptional Unico Gran Reserva Brandy comes from a lot of 15 barrels separated from the original solera in 1972 and has not been drawn from since then. A limited number of bottles of this brandy are hand-bottled each year, and it has been aged for over 40 years in sherry casks. It has a golden mahogany color with complex aromas, hints of oak, and a mature palate. It offers fruity and elegant flavors with a long, harmonious, and warming finish, including notes of tobacco, thyme, biscotti sweetness, and ripe cherry.
Bodegas Rey Fernando de Castilla is located in the heart of Jerez de la Frontera and is well-known for its high-quality brandies, as well as its sherries and drinking vinegars. The brandies are distilled from selected white wines using a traditional alambic, resulting in a highly aromatic distillate. After distillation, the brandy is aged in new barrels made of American and French white oak, and the Unico is made from up to 15 grains of Reserva brandy and aged in former sherry casks using the solera process. The brandies used are up to 40 years old. The Unico has a mahogany color, complex aroma with fruit, nut, and wood notes, and delicate caramel and vanilla flavors on the palate. Only 1,200 bottles of this exclusive brandy are filled each year, with both labeling and bottling done by hand. It is an exceptional brandy that can rival any cognac.
