Fundador Solera Reserva Brandy
Description
Pedro Domecq Loustau, a grocer from France, created Fundador Brandy in 1874. This Spanish grape brandy is distilled using Airen and Palomino grapes and aged in sherry-soaked solera casks. Fundador is exported to over 30 countries, with the Philippines as the top importer. It is described as a rich, smooth, and full-flavored brandy, with notes of spice, brandy butter, fruitcake, dried apricot, and pepper. The palate is thick and creamy, with flavors of Christmas pudding, vanilla custard, baked apples, and spice. The finish is medium, with lingering apricot and spice. Bodegas Pedro Domecq in Andalusia, Spain, is known for its excellent sherry and also produces high-quality brandy. The brandy is blended using the solera process and matured in former sherry barrels. Fundador Brandy is amber-golden in color and has fresh and balanced flavors of fruit, vanilla, oak, nutmeg, and caramel. In Ernest Hemingway's novel, "Death in the Afternoon," his characters enjoy Fundador brandy while watching the bull run.
